For those of you that don’t know the City Pages, every year all Twin Cities folks can vote on their favorite things about the city and it is all put together in a special edition of the paper called “Best of Twin Cities”.

Many of our No Coast Craft-o-rama sellers also sell their wares on Etsy.com. There was an article in the Star Tribune about the site yesterday:

I thought this quote was interesting: “Stinchcomb said Etsy’s mission is helping people make a living by making creative things. So it not only provides the means for sales, but it also educates its vendors on such issues as health insurance.”
The Crafters Local 612 has a similar mission, but on a local scale. Now the key is figuring out how to execute it!

M.A. Rosko and Munter were on hand to interview Grovecraft, Fantastic Toys, Charlie and Sarah, Critterbee, Beeper Bebe, Nate’s Custom Sewing and Cosmo’s Collars, as well as talk to Debbie Stoller about her new book and book signing. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by Mary Jane’s Handmade at No Coast Craft-o-rama this weekend, you should really stop by her online store. You won’t have to brave a snowstorm, and she does have a couple of aprons left.

In a state that boasts some of the coldest temperatures in the US and where a typical winter day involves trudging through a foot of snow, it becomes obvious why Minnesota is home to so many wonderful artists and crafters. Helping to support that talent as well as crafters that live beyond Minnesota’s borders, the No Coast Craft-O-Rama has gone from a small affair to one of the largest craft shows in the Midwest in just three years. This year’s show features over one hundred vendors (including over forty etsians!) and is expected to draw a crowd of over 8,000 shoppers.
So how did this little craft show become one of the largest in the Midwest? What goes into making a large craft show so successful and run smoothly? Kristen Himsl (kristenmary.etsy.com), member of Crafters Local 612 and cofounder of No Coast, was kind enough to take a moment out of her busy crafting and promoting schedule to answer some questions.
